From Caletta de Fuste (El Castillo) you drive in the direction of Puerto de Rosario. Drive on to Casillas del Angel and La Ampuyenta, where you find a private gallery, with paintings of the Argentine landscape painter Alejandro Andreoni, who lives since many years on Fuerteventura. In the small church of San Pedro de Alcantara, baroque wall paintings cover the entire altar area. From Antigua, the oldest town on the island, you drive to Betancuria, with the many objects of interest. From Betancuria the road leads through the impressive mountainous landscape to Pajara. After a visit to the church with the "Aztec portal" you drive further to Tuineje, the long time agricultural centre and still the municipality seat. At the altar base of the church San Miguel, two pictures remind of the battle of Tamacite in 1740, when the farmers used dromedaries as shields, while fighting plundering pirates. Continuing in the direction of Gran Tarajal, you will reach the main road again. For an excursion to the beach you can choose between Las Playitas (drive on in direction Gran Tarajal) or Pozo Negro, with its solid lava stream and black beach.
